How do I clean my
Carpet?
Carpet's worst enemies include dust, moths and soot.
Dust wears through the material over time and can make
large holes. Carpets are cleaned using either a vacuum
cleaner or brush in the direction of - never against -
the pile. If the rugs are older use a vacuum cleaner not
more than twice a month at low speed. A warning to
vacuum cleaner users: only vacuum the pile of the rug,
not the delicate fringes. The fringes will not last long
if a vacuum cleaner is used on them regularly. Use a
vacuum cleaner with a built-in 'beater' on the back of
the rug every six months for removing ground-in loose
fibers, sand, and grit.
If
you decide to wash your carpet, test the colors on a
small portion - a corner - for fastness, first with a
dry, and then with a wet cloth. If the color does not
bleed, use only the finest, gentle soap flake.
Detergents or chemicals of any kind should not be used.
They reduce the fat content and therefore the luster and
the durability of the wool.
To
freshen color, add a very small quantity if wine vinegar
to the last rinse.

How do I clean my
laminate Floor?
-
Use
felt pads, or wide based casters underneath all
chair and furniture legs.
-
When
moving heavy objects across the floor always use
extra care and place walk off mats by all exterior
doorways.
-
Vacuum
your floor regularly using soft brush attachments
and wipe with a damp cloth or mop when needed.
-
Do
not polish or wax these floors.
-
Never
try to refinish or sand a laminate floor.
-
Do
not use steel wool or any harsh abrasive cleaners on
the floor.
-
For
additional care procedures always refer to the
manufacturer's care and maintenance instructions and
recommendations.

How
do I clean my hardwood Floor?
By following a few simple rules today, you can minimize
the need for repair and refinishing tomorrow:
Dirt,
grit and sand act like sandpaper to scratch, dent and
dull hardwood floors. Place floor mats at entrances to
trap dirt. Sweep, vacuum or dust mop at least weekly.
SWEEPING
- Brooms with fine, exploded ends trap dust and grit
effectively.
VACUUMING
- Use a brush attachment. Do not a vacuum with
beater bars because this can cause dents in your floor's
finish. Canister vacuums with special bare floor
attachments are the surest way to get rid of all the
dirt and dust.
DUST
MOPPING - Use a dust mop with a 12-to-18-inch cotton
head. Check with the flooring manufacturer if a mop
treatment is to be used.
WATER
and other standing liquids can damage a floor's
finish. Standing water can warp a finished floor.
Starting at the edge and working toward the center, wipe
up spills, pet accidents and other mishaps when they
happen.
FURNITURE
should be moved by lifting, not dragging. Felt
contacts under furniture legs are a good idea to help
prevent scratches in routine use.
SUNLIGHT
can cause discoloration over time. Close curtains
and blinds or add sheer drapes to protect a hardwood
floor from intense UV rays.
SHOES
with exposed nails and heel supports will dent any
floor.

How do I clean my Vinyl Floor?
-
Vacuum
regularly to remove grit and sand. Wash your floor
occasionally with the manufacturer's recommended
floor cleaner, such as Armstrong's Once 'n Done No
Rinse Cleaner, or Mannington's Award Cleaner.
-
Wipe
up spills immediately. If needed clean with the
manufacturers recommended cleaner. You can also
clean with Luke warm water and clear ammonia.
-
If
you floor becomes dull looking you may need to add
the manufacturer's recommended floor polish to
restore the original gloss level. First, try
cleaning with Luke warm water and clear ammonia to
see if there is a film on your floor causing the
dullness.
-
Never
use abrasive cleaners, soaps, paste waxes, or
solvents on your vinyl floor.
-
Place
non-staining, walk-off mats at every outside entry
to your room. This will help keep sand and grit from
being tracked on to your floor.
-
When
moving heavy objects across your floor place plywood
or underlayment sheets down first and move the
object over the plywood sheets.

How do I clean my
Tiles?
Clean your tile & grout using warm water and a clean
nonabrasive cloth sponge or mop. Use a neutral cleaner
that is specially formulated for ceramic, porcelain tile
& grout to help remove soils that sweeping, dusting,
vacuuming or damp mopping leave behind.
Do
not use ordinary household cleaners, as you may degrade
the sealer that was applied to the grout to protect
against stains. This includes not using acidic or
alkaline cleaners, bleach, abrasives or ammoniated
cleaners.
Vacuum
or dust frequently using a clean non-treated dry dust
mop. Sand, dirt, and grit may scratch your tile or
build-up on your grout joint leading to discoloration.
Mats or area rugs inside and outside an entrance will
help minimize the potential damage from these particles.
Damp
mop your tile floor with a diluted solution of neutral
cleaner. Try to stay off the floor until it is
completely dry, as wet tile floors may be slippery.
GROUT CARE:
Once the tile has been cleaned and dried (shortly
after installation) grout joints should be treated with
a silicone sealer. Grout is porous and sealing it at
this time will simplify maintenance in the future.
(Epoxy grouts do not require a sealer). It is
recommended that you apply a sealer at least twice a
year for maximum stain protection.
Heavy duty cleaning:
Neglected or heavily trafficked tile may require more
intensive cleaning. Glean glazed wall tiles with a
scouring powder or all purpose cleaner applied to a non
metallic pad. Rinse and wipe dry. For glazed floor
tiles, use a commercial tile cleaner, or apply a strong
solution of an all purpose, non oil based cleaner or
scouring powder paste. Let stand for five minutes, brush
and scrub. Then rinse with clean water and wipe dry.
For
heavy duty cleaning of unglazed wall tiles, make a paste
of scouring powder. Apply to surface and let stand for
five minutes. Scour with brush, rinse and wipe dry.
Unglazed floor tiles can be cleaned in the same manner.
Though a small brush is suitable for most floors, you
may want to use a scrubbing machine for large areas.

What to Do When Spills
Occur:
Grout Etching
Ceramic and porcelain tile is usually impervious or
highly resistant to staining. However, grout may be a
different story. Substances that are highly acidic, such
as orange juice, coffee, vinegar, wine, tomato-based
products, mustard and many soft drinks will most likely
leave an "etch," a chemical reaction that may
leave a dull area or mark. Properly sealing the grout
will give you time to wipe up a spill to avoid staining,
but it cannot prevent etching. In addition, ordinary
household cleaners with colored dyes or those containing
bleach, ammonia or abrasives are not recommended for
ceramic, porcelain tile & grout. They may damage the
surface and likely degrade the sealer that is applied to
the grout, which provides stain protection.
Food
Spills
Scoop up food with a plastic spoon. Blot with a dry
white cloth. Spray the area with a neutral cleaner and
wipe off excess with a clean cloth.
Liquid
Spills
Blot up the excess with a clean, dry cloth. Then
clean the area with a ph-balanced cleaner and wipe off
excess with a clean cloth.
Mud
Let the mud stain dry completely. Remove dried mud
with a soft plastic nylon brush. Spray affected area
with a neutral cleaner and wipe off excess with a clean
cloth.
